Elma Marguerite Black passed away peacefully August 30, 2010 at the Harvey Community Hospital, Harvey Station, N.B.. Elma was born August 6, 1917 in Acton, N.B., the daughter of the late Murray R. and Ethel G (Coffee) Davis. Elma taught school for several years. In 1946 she married Russell and became a permanent resident of Fairhaven, Deer Island. She worked for many years in the labelling/packing room at Conners Brothers Ltd. in Fairhaven. Elma was a very faithful member of the Fairhaven United Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, an active member of the Women’s Institute, the Women’s Missionary Society, the Seniors Group, and very active in her community. Her home was always open to family, friends and visitors.

She is survived by her brother Douglas Davis (Pauline) Hanwell, N.B., sister-in-law Emma Davis, Acton, N.B., brother-in-law Donald Garwood, California and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Elma was predeceased by her husband Russell, a sister Helen Garwood, a brother Dayton Davis, and infant brother Donald Davis, a brother-in-law Milton Black and his wife Marion.

Visitation was held at Swan’s Funeral Home, 1826 Route 3, Harvey Station, on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 6 to 9 P.M.

Visitation was also held at Fairhaven United Baptist Church, Deer Island, on September 2, 2010 from 1 to 2 P.M.. The funeral service followed at 2:30 P.M. with Rev. Dean Annis and Rev. Maurice Hatfield officiating. Words of Remembrance was delived by her niece, Cheryl Coburn. Scripture readings were by her nieces, Margaret Roy and Lynn Hutchin. Music was congregational singing with Rev. Hatfield as organist. Interment followed at Fairhaven Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Davis, Ronald Davis, Bill Hutchin, Tom Coburn, Carl Stover and Wayne Martin. A reception was then held at the church.

The family has suggested donations may be made to Harvey Outreach (Harvey Health Centre Foundation), Fairhaven United Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice in memory of Elma.
